Slavery in New England

Slavery in New England

Slavery existed in every colony in New England and most enslaved people in America were transported to the colonies in New England ships.  It helped shape regional society from the 1600s to the present day.  This presentation looks at slavery as it ended in New England and how the legacy of “the peculiar institution” remains with us today. The town of Lancaster was no exception with several early leading townspeople having owned slaves. Interestingly, Massachusetts was the first U.S. state to effectively and fully abolish slavery.  – CLICK HERE.
